Why does work need to be an all or nothing experience? An age-friendly community encourages older people to be actively engaged in community life and has opportunities for residents to work for pay or volunteer their skills.

Summer 2024 - “All Things Carbondale” Trivia Game

For 6 mos, at every 1st Fri, at many Town events and Farmer's Markets, AFC ran a booth with a trivia game, "All Things Carbondale" . It was organized with the goal of helping local folks learn more about the place they live and to encourage them to participate more in their  community in a variety of ways. Questions and prizes were collected from a wide variety of Carbondale organizations, agencies, businesses, long-time residents....Categories included local history, nature , geography, local politics, municipality and county details, culture, current affairs, safety, inclusion ......  There were questions for young participants, as well. It was very popular, and there is interest in potentially creating an inter-agency competitive game.

Senior Matters, CAFCI and Heritage Park Assisted Living Center joined together to raise awareness of Senior Citizens in Carbondale and had a heck of a nice time too.

CAFCI activists hit the streets to identify hazards and potential bench sites.

First Friday Bell Bonanza – July 5th, 2019

CAFCI & Senior Matters Volunteers distributed over 100 Bike Bells to riders of all ages, asking them to keep everyone safe by ringing their bells when approaching anyone from behind. Bells were supplied at cost by Aloha Cyclery, paid for by a grant from The Rebecca Lodge.
